LRH Has Latest Innovation in Mammography
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer during her life is about one in eight according to the American Cancer Society. Lakes Regional Healthcare (LRH) recently advanced the fight against this pervasive disease by installing a new cutting edge digital mammography system for its patients.
The system is a full-field digital mammography system that produces clear and precise all-digital images on a computer screen, rather than images on x-ray film. Physicians can zoom in, magnify, and optimize different parts of the breast tissue. Additionally, the system provides the largest field of view currently available, which can be helpful for precision imaging of patients with various breast shapes and sizes.
LRH Radiology Manager Tracy Evans said, “Digital systems such as ours allow us to offer our patients state-of-the-art mammograms that are fast and easy. The images from our system are clear and easy to read, and it offers an excellent view of the breast, even in women with diverse breast tissue types.”
The digital image comes up on the computer screen within 10 seconds; there is no longer a wait for films to be developed to be sure the images are usable. Evans said, “As a result, the radiology technologist that performs the exam sees the images immediately and does not leave the room during the exam to determine if more images are needed, which reduces the patient’s wait time and anxiety level.” She went on to say that the images can be sent electronically to a consulting physician virtually instantaneously as well.
