LRH Foundation Receives Donation to Help Cancer Patients
Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation recently received a donation for nearly $3,600, to be used to help cancer patients receiving care at Lakes Regional Healthcare.
“We are grateful for this gift,” said Jennifer Gustafson, Executive Director of Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation. “We hear quite often from patients how they need transportation to and from chemotherapy visits, or are having trouble with their vision due to chemotherapy medications, and this donation will definitely allow us to help patients in these and other ways and make a personal impact on their lives.”
The donation is the result of a golf tournament and derby event held on May 6 and 7 at Emerald Hills Golf Course. Kim Butler and Donna Janssen, respectively from Milford and Spirit Lake, coordinated the event. “The Kentucky Derby inspired us. They donate to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, but we wanted to make an impact on a local level,” said Butler.
Janssen added, “I’m delighted that local residents struggling with cancer will benefit from our donation and commitment to the cause. We wanted to do whatever we could to make life a little easier for them as they go through their battle with cancer.”
Event participation was strong, at 96 golfers and 76 people involved in the derby activities, which included a dinner and silent auction. Janssen said, “This is the first year we’ve raised money, and I think it’s something we’ll do next year as well. We had a great time, a lot of great auction items, and wonderful help from people like Lois Eckard, Patty Grimm, and Judy Wendell to secure those auction items and Randy Rohlfsen for hosting the event at Emerald Hills.”
Established earlier this year, Lakes Regional Healthcare Foundation was organized exclusively for the purpose of supporting and benefiting Lakes Regional Healthcare and the expansion and improvement of healthcare services to the area.
