LRH to Host Emergency Medical Services Week Activities

In recognition of National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, Lakes Regional Healthcare’s (LRH) Ambulance Department will be hosting activities throughout the week of May 20-26, 2012. The week kicks off with a meet and greet event on May 22 from 6 pm until 8 pm at the HyVee parking lot in Spirit Lake. A second meet and greet will be held on May 24 from 6 pm until 8 pm at Buy-Rite in Milford. Ambulance staff will be present at both locations and available to speak with the public and have informational pamphlets to hand out. Those unable to attend a meet and greet event can visit with EMS providers, including LRH Paramedic-Specialists and Dickinson County EMS volunteers, and view equipment used during emergencies at an open house on Wednesday, May 23 from 5 pm until 7 pm at LRH’s ambulance garage, located on the southwest side of the hospital by the main entrance.

LRH Ambulance Supervisor Chris Yungbluth said, “This is the time to come and visit with the people that serve on the front lines of healthcare. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions about emergency medical services and how it is provided right here in our communities.”

All ages are encouraged to attend Wednesday’s open house. LRH Paramedic-Specialist Dustin Hicks said, “Although Wednesday of EMS week is generally dedicated to EMS for Children Day, our open house will have learning opportunities for all ages.”

The open house will have multiple displays from not only EMS providers in the county but also some partner agencies. For example, North Memorial Helicopter hopes to have their helicopter on the helipad just outside LRH’s ambulance garage for the public to view. Dickinson County Emergency Management will have information on how to make a home safety kit. Dickinson County’s Communications Center will present information on how to properly use 911. Those in attendance can also learn how to extinguish a small fire using a fire extinguisher and much more at many other learning stations. Drawings for free swimming lessons provided by the Bedell Family YMCA, smoke detectors, and more will also be held.

Those interested in more information can call 712-336-8642.
