Speech Therapy Speech therapy, a service at Lakes Regional Community Health Center, allows area patients to recover and learn to communicate after a stroke or accident.
Speech therapy involves assessing a patient’s communication abilities and difficulties, and then implementing appropriate goals and methods to improve their communication. This may include instructing the patient how to read, write, speak, and swallow again. Depending on the patient’s needs and abilities, patients usually receive speech therapy two to five times each week for several months.
A physician’s referral is necessary to receive speech therapy.
