Wednesday, March 3, 2010 -ACCEPTING APPOINTMENTS 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Lakes Regional Healthcare Community Health Center 1003 21st Street, Milford 712-336-2682
*** Please note these clinics are available to everyone in Dickinson County (not just the previously identified priority groups), so those who have not yet received H1N1 flu vaccine are encouraged to call to schedule an appointment.
Dickinson County Public Health (DCPH) will post H1N1 flu vaccine clinic information (day, date, time, location) as it is available at this location on this web site (as well as on the home page). Once a clinic is scheduled and listed on this site, people are asked to call DCPH at 336-2682 to schedule an appointment IF THE CLINIC IS STILL TAKING APPOINMENTS. Once the clinic is full and appointments are no longer being taken, this site will provide that information as well.
The vaccine is available as a nasal spray or an injection. DCPH staff will do an assessment regarding whether to give the vaccine as an injection or nasal spray at the clinic. The difference is that the nasal spray is a weakened live virus and the injection is a dead, inactivated virus. With the nasal spray, you may get a few symptoms of H1N1 flu, but not actually get H1N1 flu. With the injection, you may have soreness at the injection site.
The injection will consist of one shot in the arm. The only exception is for children ages 9 and under; they are encouraged to get two shots spaced one month apart.
The H1N1 flu vaccine will only be available through Dickinson County Public Health in our area and is provided at no cost.
