Seasonal Flu: Local Vaccine Availability
Dickinson County Public Health provides flu shots each year and are currently available for $25. Those interested in receiving the seasonal flu shot through Dickinson County Public Health are required to schedule an appointment by calling 712-336-2682. To learn more about the flu shot clinics once they are scheduled, please visit the “Events” section of this web site.

Dickinson County Public Health screens each interested person to comply with criteria from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Iowa Department of Public Health and gives flu shots accordingly. The criteria developed regarding priority groups for flu vaccination are:

• Children aged six months up to their 19th birthday

• Pregnant women

• People 50 years of age and older

• People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions

• People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities

• People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from the flu, including:
a. Health care workers
b. Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
c. Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than six months of age

The following groups are not recommended to have flu vaccination without first consulting a physician:

• People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs

• People who have had a severe reaction to a flu vaccination

• People who developed Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) within six weeks of getting a flu vaccination

• Children less than six months of age

• People who have a moderate to severe illness with a fever (these people should wait until they recover to get vaccinated)
